GRENCODA'S Achievements

 

This is a over view of some of GRENCODA's Acheivements over the years.

  1. Dougaldston:-

GRENCODA's intervention in this community dates back to 1987

  • The establishment of the Dougaldston Pre-primary School enebled the young children to receive early childhood education in Dougaldston. One hundred and eighteen (118) children have graduated from the school by the end of 2001 and moved on to Primary School;
  • An Active Parent/Teacher Association has been established/youth group involved in drama/dance;
  • Diet, nutrition and health of the students have vastly improved and 100% immunization is not uncommon against child hood diseases through GRENCODA's efforts;
  • Due to public Education by GRENCODA, the general sanitation of the community has improved significantly;
  • Students into Secondary School as a result orf early childhood education;
  • Youth trained in craft production and the Basic computer knowledge.
  1. Grand Roy:-

GRENCODA's intervention in this community dates as far back as 1991.

  • One hundred and ten (110) toddlers have attended the Day Care Centre and the present (2001) enrolment is eighteen(18). Their health and weight have improved by the virtue of the food and nutrition and regime at the Grand Roy Day Care Centre.
  • Full employment has been provided to five (5) previously unemployed women in the community at the centre.
  • Young mothers have been provided with opportunities to seek employment and training.
  • Mulit purpose building under construction to house the Day Care Center.
  1. Marquis :-

GRENCODA's intervention in this community dates as far back as 1992.

  • Over eighteen (18) women have been highly trained in bamboo craft.
  • The Craft Centre has been renovated, with repairs done to the roof, toilet and electrical facilities - Craft shop to be opened for the upcoming tourist season.
  • 14,000-sq. ft. of land was purchased to construct a pre-school.
  • A modern pre-school designed to house 40 pre-schoolers has been completed and was officially opened September 3, 2000.
  • Community members have been trained in effective group development and functioning, and are operating effectively.
  • Space available for community use.
  1. Clozier :-

GRENCODA's intervention in this community dates as far back as 1997.

  • Group/committee formed - Clozier United DevelopmentOrganization (CUDO)
  • Community Centre renovated
  • Community members trained for floral arrangement
  • Fourteen (14) women engaged in Sewing project - Basic Course completed, some of whom received loans to purchase sewing machines.
  • Eight (8) completed intermediate sewing course
  • Ideas presented, developed for livelihood creation, skills training and income generation.
  • Community survey done on the demise of the Banana Industry, its impact on house hold income.
  • Survey completed on the effect of Globalization or rural country/including women.
  1. Chamboard :-

GRENCODA's intervention in this community dates as far back as 1989.

  • Employment generation for young farmers
  • Training and equipment for farming.
  • Research of land ownership.
  • Ongoing process for land tenure
  • Training for women to develop agro processing.
  1. Coast Guard
  • Coast Guard Development Group (CGDC) was born in 1999 with nine member Executive body.
  • CGDG participated in the Annual St. Mark's Day Celebration performing a play,.
  • CDG was invited, and accepted to be represented on the St. Marks's Development Committee (SMDC), a parish body geared to improving conditions in the parish.
  • Two members under the SMDC banner assisted on weekends in the fundraising motorcade to raise funds for the purchase of an ambulance for the parish.
  • A two (2) day workshop attended by fifteen (15) members was held to facilitate planning and to develop a comprehensive training plan.
  • A training plan inclusive of formal education, leadership training, skills training, human resource development, Grpup building, performing arts was developed.
  • Potential areas for (a) research and (b) income generating activities were identified :-

  • Five (5) Coast Guard Secondary School students supported for the academic year September 2001 - June 2002. Two of them begun form 1 and with positive feed back will be supported for five years

  • Three (3) have been assisted to access skills training at the premier vocational institute in Grenada, New Life Organization (NEWLO).

  • Over twenty (20) members attended a workshop with Pineland Creative of Barbados and Heritage Theatre Co. of Grenada in Sptember 2001.

  • CDGD in conjunction with Family Theatre Company held a show in October in the town of St. Mark's, Victoria
